The interaction between natural instincts which are trying to tell us the right thing to do, and artificial modern stimulation which is hijacking that process. The way drugs work is they hijack the existing pleasure circuits in our brain, when certain chemicals hit those areas, they cause feeling of euphoria and excitement. The same drug affect is when we intake highly concentrated processed foods. The fiber, water, and minerals are removed, so the food is hyper concentrated with sugar and bad fats, which also is added large amounts of salt into the foods. That creates a low-grade addiction, by triggering receptors in the brain to want more of that kind of food. Most foods are calorie rich and nutrient poor, People in today’s world want food that is fast and quick, people tend to choose foods that are salty, fried, and full of calories; these are the foods that are advertised on tv and throughout urban neighborhoods. “The utility of Ayurveda is to maintain the health of a healthy individual and heal the disease of the sick” -Ayurveda Proverb Healthy habits pertaining to food choices, moderate exercise, and sleep leads to good complexion, growth and full health for the full span of one’s life. Praise for The China Study: “The China Study gives critical, life-saving nutrition information for every health-seeker in America. But it is much more; Dr. Campbell’s exposé of the research and medical establishment makes this book a fascinating read and one that could change the future for all of us. Every health care provider and researcher in the world must read it” -Joel Fuhrman, M.D Author of the Best-Selling book, Eat to Live When we eat the typical western diet, it damages our endothelial cells causing plaque buildup. ‘LDL is a carrier protein and when that becomes oxidized or damaged; inflammation happens. The damaged LDL turns on the immune system and inflammation happens and it’s that inflammation the builds up and starts to narrow the arteries. We can keep the LDL from oxidizing by introducing good fats and cutting way down on carbohydrates, according to Dr. Perlmutter. A whole food plant-based diet with good fats stops and reverses the damage to the endothelial cells. We also need to stop thinking of the human body as compartmentalized, everything is connected within our body, if you have a vascular disease; that disease affects everything in the body. The key agency that sets nutritional guidelines is the United States Department of Agriculture, the USDA helps to determine what foods are served to everyone from our soldiers in the field to what is served in our schools. These guidelines are also taught in our schools, these guideline influences how we will eat for the rest of our lives. “This group cannot advocate for farmers, help subsidize their operations, manage commodity food, subsidize the price of growing things, and turn around and say we are going to tell people what to eat; based on their constituents, which are the farmers and not the American public”. -Pam Popper, N.D.
